The Pinewood Derby; Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Ellsworth Hill; 8:15 Arrival; 9:30 Racing
The annual Pack 3322 Pinewood Derby race will be held Saturday, February 8, at 9:00 am at Ellsworth Hill Elementary School. Scouts should wear their Class A uniforms with neckerchiefs. The schedule for the event will be as follows:
- 8:15 am – Arrive; open track time; check in your cars
- 9:00 am – All cars must be at the venue AND checked in AND passed inspection by 9:00; otherwise they will not be eligible to race
- 9:30 am – Racing will start. Racing will be intra-den at first, beginning with the Lion den and continuing through to the Webelos II den. The top three racers from each den will be awarded a medal. The top three from each den will also advance to the Pack Finals, as will the top three overall times from the entire Pack that did NOT finish in the top three of the Scout’s respective den (see below).
We expect racing to be done around noon.
We prefer to sing the National Anthem prior to this event. If you have a son or daughter (or you) who would like to lead us, please let me know. If not, I may be forced to lead us, and no one wants that.
The Pack Finals will consist of ALL of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners from each den AND the top three overall racers who were not in their den’s top three. Medals will be presented to the top three racers in each den and trophies will be presented to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for the Pack Finals. Those three Scouts will be eligible to participate in the Moecomdws District Pinewood Derby on April 4 (date subject to change).
This year we are tying something new. In addition to recognizing speed, we will also recognize (via certificate) the Scout in the Pack whose cumulative times after three runs is closest to (over, under, or exactly on) the following times:
In addition to Scout races, after the Pack Finals there will be a siblings race and a parents race, so feel free to have your non Scout children construct cars to race too. Medals will be awarded to the fastest three sibling cars. Fast parent cars earn bragging rights. Extra kits can be purchased at Kamper City or the Scout Shop (now in Stow!). If you plan on entering a sibling or parent car, please register through this link (which is NOT available on the Pack webpage, only here) by February 4th. With this information, we can input the names into the software prior to the big day, which helps run the event smoothly.
The Pack will operate a simple concession stand for breakfast items at a nominal charge.
